This software is (C)1994 Jim Coleman. To decompile and alter the source
code without permission is illegal, and prosecuted. This software may

WELCOME TO SHAKER! This is a fun game of chance that simulates victim
rescue in a heavy debris environment following an earthquake! Players
have an opportunity to travel around the world to quake zones. They'll
face looters, muggers and other dangers as they travel, and those with
wit (and luck) will survive! SHAKER has been Beta tested EXCLUSIVELY
on The NASA MLP BBS for eight months, but I've decided that some of
YOUR callers might enjoy the game as much as mine do! Registration
is affordable and easy. I FULLY understand how hard it is to register
everything at 20 bucks (or more) a pop, so I try to keep my prices
reasonable. I hope the low price encourages you to support this software
as future upgrades will be free and a much larger standard door
version is being put together in C now.
I wrote this simple but FUN game for several
reasons: (1) to keep public awareness of earthquake preparation high and
(2) I got REAL tired of games on my systems where the words were all
spelled wrong, etc. If you find such errors in SHAKER please let me
know or change them in the ASCII files. Thanks. We like to at least
*look* professional, now don't we? <VBG>
MY APPRECIATION to Kevin Lawrence for help early on with the scoring,
and to the dozens of loyal MLP Shaker players who (with untold delight)
informed me of the bugs as they were discovered. Remember the hammsters
and pocket protectors!
PLEASE look at the enclosed MLPNet package! We'd LOVE you have you join
our exciting, fast-growing network! MLPNet Beta testers received FREE
registered versions (the Beta phase for SHAKER is over now, so don't ask. ;)
Look forward to similar offers in the future to ESTABLISHED MLPNet accounts!
MLPNet includes a SHAKER conference, used for support of my other programs,
as well.
This game was written as I learned the PPLC programming language. A
larger version of SHAKER is being written in C at this time, but won't
be ready for some time due to work schedules, etc.

│ HIGHLIGHTS │
└─────────────────────────────┘
√ EXTREMELY EASY to run and install, single or multi-node.
√ Writes to the CALLER'S LOG when a player is killed (grin).
Example: (**** THUD ROOTER GOT KILLED IN SHAKER! HAHAHA!!!)
√ No maintenance required, game resets//rerolls at high score.
√ PERSONALIZE the victims, quickly and easily!
√ Ability to dump player immediately from game.
√ Players pay for supplies with BOARD TIME or game money. Cycles your
system faster!
√ ONLY $10.00 TO REGISTER!!!
√ Written in PPLC v3.0, (C) 1994, Jim Coleman.
This game has been CONSISTENTLY very popular on my system since its
initial creation. Callers use BBS TIME to buy lotto tickets and can use
BBS TIME to purchase medicine, etc. The game also REWARDS players with
time in certain cases.

│ INSTALLATION: │
└─────────────────────────────┘
********THIS GAME WILL *ONLY* WORK WITH PCBOARD 15.2 (or higher). It will
NOT work with a lower version, or with ANY other BBS software yet in
existence!
Simply install SHAKER as you would any other .PPE utility or game.
(Set it up in your CMD.LST file, or call it from another .PPE or menu.)
I have a C:\PCB\SHAKER directory and run the game from there. Simply
unzip this archive into the directory and the game should be set to run.
VICTIMS.DAT is a file where YOU can define some of the victims. The
file should contain 10 lines, each with a name or victim description.
Such as "You found ___________ exwife!" You could fill in that name
with "Stan King," "William Beehive," or "some dude's", etc. Play around
with it and you'll start having some fun. Remember not to slander anyone
but it is great fun to place some of your caller's names there ;)
1 You found _________'s exwife!...
2 You administer CPR to ___________
3 This victim looks like ___________...
4 It's _______, lying in raw sewage...
5 It's _________ (in a nudist colony!)
6 It's _________ (has to give you his hammsters!) (sic)
7 _____________ rewards you with a version of DOS 1.01
8 It's _________ lying in a spill of mashed bananas...
9 It's the __________ offices (Competition BBS name here ;)
10 It's _________ (name of a person who loves to fish goes here)
11 6000
(This ELEVENTH line allows you to set the HIGH SCORE . . . where
the game will reroll when someone reaches it!)
WINNER.DAT contains the name of the last SHAKER winner!
SHAKER.DAT is the file containing number of players, and where their
score, last city, bank accounts, etc. is stored. This file will
rejuvenate itself when a game winner is declared! If SHAKER is not
working properly, it's probably something wrong with this file. The
top number should be the same as the number of lines beneath it. This
sometimes gets out of whack, but hasn't made a noticeable difference yet.
This file is NOT included in this archive, but, don't panic, the
game will AUTOMATICALLY create it, if needed.
64, 70, ETC. These are plain ASCII files describing the effects of
earthquakes at differing magnitudes. Feel free to personalize these as
you wish, if necessary. I, of course, like them as they are, but you
may have some creative ideas. :):):)
THIS GAME IS FUN, and your users will love it! I thank you in advance to
checking it out! Your registration will enable me to further develop
my other utilities and games!
Thank you,
Jim Coleman
